Bruny Island National Park and Walks Information

South Bruny National Park lies at the southern tip of Bruny Island off the
southeast coast of Tasmania. The park encompasses all of the coastline and some of the hinterland between Fluted Cape and the southern part of Great Taylors Bay. South Bruny National Park was gazetted in 1997 mainly for its wonderful  coastal scenery. Much of the coast is comprised of towering cliffs, muttonbird  rookeries, gardens of kelp seaweed and long sandy beaches...

Read the Parks and Wildlife Penguin viewing guidelines

Tasmania is fortunate in having several penguin rookeries along the coast where penguins can be easily observed. These guidelines are intended to both protect penguins and to allow you to see them under natural conditions. Please be sure you are familiar with them before visiting a penguin colony. Left to themselves, penguins will start to leave the water at last light so that they are under the
cover of darkness...

The Aboriginal People of
Bruny Island

Read about Bruny Island on Wikipedia

Picture
Bruny Island was originally inhabited
by the Aboriginal Tasmanians. Truganini (sitting right in above photograph) was of the Nuenonne Tribe from Bruny Island. She is commonly described as the last Aboriginal Tasmanian but there is  still a large community of people who identify as Aboriginal and have a special connection with their Country.
They call the island
Lunawanna-Alonnah. The first two European towns built on the island were named
Lunawanna and Alonnah, and most of the island's landmarks are named after the Nuenonne people...

Bruny Cheesery

"The cheeses I make are very much the product of my travels and training
throughout the great cheese producing regions of France, Italy, Spain and the
UK. They are the cheeses I love to make and eat. They are also uniquely Tasmanian.

Penguins

All you need is a free evening and a sturdy pair of shoes. Enjoy the penguins coming home at the Bruny Island Neck penguin viewing platform.

Solitude in nature on Bruny Island

Exclusive occupancy. Just one guest accommodation in a 2000Ha private reserve. Luxury and wildlife.

This stylish, self catering accommodation on Bruny Island, offers tranquility and unrivaled privacy. Chez Discovery is a two bedroom, environmentally sensitive house that weaves contemporary with past with spectacular views to Tasmania’s World Heritage Wilderness Area including Hartz Mountains National Park, La Perouse and Adamsons Peak, with Great Taylors Bay and Labillardiere Peninsula in the foreground.

Our cheerful, hidden gem is ten kilometres south of the last electricity pole and our power is generated by a renewable solar electric system, with back up generators and gas for cooking and heating.

The galley is fully equipped with tea and coffee supplies, oyster knives,
cake tins, spices and much more. Simply bring along your meal provisions, favourite snacks and drinks. The gas barbeque to grill your favourites whilst savouring a delicious Tasmanian wine or beer is on hand. Outdoor furniture is easily placed to a desired spot for alfresco lunches and evening meals. In the event of rain and you still wish to be outdoors, just tuck in under the covered patio-carport.
Discover Odyssey Studio in the bush and set your creative self free, you’re bound to find inspiration on the way. Binoculars and torches are handy for bird watching and nocturnal wildlife spotting. Just want to relax? Amusements include a collection of books, games, puzzles and magazines, CD player and an MP3 dock for your favourite tunes. Hanging out couldn’t be easier! Bask in warm sun on the large deck or hunt and gather with the supplied fishing gear. Bring a wetsuit for swimming or snorkeling or anticipate a brisk splash. We’ll ensure a safe launching into the bay if you feel like putting your kayak on your roof racks to bring along and if there is wind, go fly the kite.

Shower or lounge with a bubble bath. Queen beds are plumped with pillows and fluffy doonahs and though the laundry room has all the mod cons, we suggest you meander, explore, discover, compose a song, start that book or here’s a trick...just sit and wonder.
