Cloudy Bay

Iconic Cloudy Bay is located on the southern end of Bruny Island in beautiful Tasmania. Bruny Island is a popular destination year round offering everything from bush walking, nature and wildlife adventure, boating, fishing and surfing some of the world’s most spectacular beaches. In addition to its holiday appeal, Bruny Island is also the location of many small holdings of artisan produce and fresh seafood harvested from the world's purest waters.

At the top of the list is Cloudy Bay with it’s white sand beach facing the great Southern Ocean which creates dramatic skies, incredible sunrises and sometimes enormous swells. It’s crescent shape gives swimmers the choice of large or small waves, though on a big day its best to watch the big rollers from the beach. Amazingly, the water temperature is very pleasant and refreshing in the summer months.

The dunes are home to an astonishing and diverse range of native flora and fauna including shearwaters and penguins that return to their rookery burrows every evening after a day at sea fishing. The endangered tiny and beautiful Hooded plover nests here with a number of other seabirds during the breeding season. There's much to do, see and learn about when you spend time on Bruny Island!

We acknowledge the Alonnah-Lunawanna Nueononne people who are the Traditional Owners of the land on which we live, are custodians and work to protect.

Prior to European settlement Bruny Island was the home of a small band of Aborignal people known as the Nuenonne. The famous Tasmanian woman Trugernanner - Truganini, daughter of Mangerner - Chief Mangana and leader of the band, died at the age of sixty four. Truganini was married to Wooreddy whom she met at the island mission conducted by George Agustus Robinson. The Nuenonne called Bruny Island Lunawannaalonna, today these names refer to two separate villages on the west coast of the island.
