Things to do in Tasmania during Summer
 ( Hobart and southern Tasmania)

Picture
Summer brings long daylight hours and warm temperatures. This is the busy season with crowds at many attractions. You will need to book your accommodation well ahead of time. Experience Summer in Tasmania's south: Hobart, Huon Valley, Channel, Bruny Island and Far South. This is the season for cherries straight off the tree, spectacular mountain and coastal walks as well as food and cultural festivals.

Tasmanian Weather Patterns in Summer

The long daylight hours provide plenty of time for outdoor activities followed by a romantic evening cuddled in front of the wood fire. At solstice, first light is about am and last light 9:30pm. A typical 6 day Tasmanian Summer weather cycle goes something like this:
  • Partly cloudy sky, gentle breeze, 19 - 24 degrees max. Mild clear night. Night is short so not much opportunity for stargazing.
  • Partly cloudy sky, northerly breeze, 20 - 25 degrees max.
  • Clear blue sky, northerly breeze, 22 - 28 degrees max.
  • Clear blue sky, hot northerly wind, 25 - 30 degrees max. Then late afternoon, a sudden cold change to moderate westerly winds, temperature drops to 12 - 15 degrees. A few few hours of rain.
  • Clouds clearing to a mostly blue sky, gentle breeze, 16 - 19 degrees max. Mild night with spectacular stars.
  • Generally repeats on a cycle of 5 to 7 days.
