Huon Valley Councils NRM (Natural Resource Management) unit are looking to establish a new “Landcare” group for the Huon Valley – the Huon Valley Roamers. In an effort to gather as many members as possible. The Landcare ethic is about a sense of stewardship and making a difference from the ground up – controlling weeds, planting trees, stabilising tracks etc….. The intent is to form a group of volunteers willing to work on a variety of land care projects right across the Huon Valley Municipal area. There are many people in the community wanting to do the volunteer work itself. The intent is to create a larger pool of volunteers, who will be notified of working bees to address problems in particular areas or to take on projects within their particular interest. The NRM Unit will be able to handle the administration and volunteers could then choose to participate in activities. The reason for this email is to gauge community support for this initiative. I am seeking registrations of interest from those willing to become involved in volunteering in the Huon Valley Roamers. If you are interested, just send me a quick email expressing your interest and how many times a year you feel you would be willing to devote a little bit of time to keeping our Valley one of the most beautiful places in the world. If you know of anyone else who may be interested, please forward this info onward.
